Adham Youssef is a Cairo-based journalist and film critic. His main interest is Egyptian cinema, its history, artistic heritage and effect on popular culture. He believes cinema can be used to historicize the past and understand the present. His work includes sociopolitical analysis of commercial and independent films, propaganda and visual art. He is also an aspiring scriptwriter with lots of wrinkled papers on his desk.
When not watching films, he covers local Egyptian politics, with a focus on extra-judicial violations, workers’ rights, political Islam and torture. As a student, Adham studied modern history and political science at the American University in Cairo.read more
