Video | Ramadan’s Here: Hosted by al-Mazaynah

In the second episode of Ramadan’s Here, a series documenting iftar culture in diverse Egyptian homes, we follow Ahmed, a young member of the al-Mazaynah tribe as he joins the community iftar in Nuweiba, South Sinai.

The al-Ghawanah family hosts the daily iftar in its maq’ad (a guesthouse where the family dines and receives guests) in central Nuweiba. The women of each family in the al-Mazaynah tribe (one of the oldest tribes in Nuweiba, whose roots go back to al-Hijaz) contributes a seafood, rice or vegetable dish, while youngsters carry the food to the maq’ad and serve guests.
