A walkthrough: How to make patterned tiles

The family of Mohamed Hassan Rashed began making cement tiles more than a century ago. He stopped due to a fall in demand as more affordable ceramic tiles became popular in Cairo. In the 1990s conservators of old houses in the Darb al-Ahmar neighborhood, where his workshop is set up, asked him to start again. His lead craftsman, Zeidan al-Geinidi, walks us through the steps of making the patterned tiles.
