Three security personnel and one civilian were shot to death on Thursday in a militant ambush in the Sebeika area west of Arish, a security source told Mada Masr.
Armed militants set up the ambush on the Arish-Qantara International Road near Sebeika, according to the security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. They apprehended two vehicles traveling on the road and shot at them, killing all three passengers, an Armed Forces corporal, a soldier and a policeman, in the first car. One civilian was killed and another was injured in the second vehicle.
A resident of the area, also speaking on condition of anonymity, told Mada Masr that the those killed in the second car were members of armed civilian troupe Battalion 103, also known as the Death Squad, which frequently collaborates with the Armed Forces on their North Sinai operations.
Battalion 103 first appeared on the streets of Sheikh Zuwayed in 2015, and are provided with weapons and supplies by the Egyptian military, which uses them in areas of North Sinai Armed Forces personnel are unable to enter.
