This week there are several diverse events planned, signifying a slow but strong return of cultural activities to Cairo and Alexandria after a lazy summer. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Summer Festival continues this week, with several concerts such as Karakeeb, Sheikh Zein and Storm Band. So does the Citadel Festival for Music and Singing, at which Eftekasat will be performing this week. There is also a chance to check out the play El-Prova, by the same troupe who staged the popular 1980 and Up in 2015.

My Love Awaits Me by the Sea screening and Director Q&A — Tuesday

Zawya is set to host Palestinian acclaimed documentary My Love Awaits Me by the Sea, attended by director Mais Darwazah, who will be available for a Q&A session after the film. In her first feature length film, Darwazah returns to her homeland for the first time. The film asks how one can return to a place that only exists in the mind, and if its possible to hold your own version of truth when history has taken it from you. These questions are particularly pertinent as activists are campaigning for Google Maps to put Palestine back on its map.

The screening will take place at 7:30 pm on Tuesday August 23 at Zawya, Cinema Odeon, 4 Abdel-Hamid Said Street, off Talaat Harb Street, Downtown Cairo.
