The American University in Cairo’s Venture Lab is hosting its second Demo Day this Thursday for start-ups graduating from its Cycle 2 acceleration and incubation program. The day will feature presentations by the five start-ups, taking place at AUC’s new campus from 4-7 pm.
The Demo Day will also feature the launch of the Arabic translation of “Business Model Generation” (published by Jabal Amman Book), which describes itself as a “handbook for visionaries” and has step by step instructions for entrepreneurs to create and develop their business plan by identifying key customer segments and value propositions.
Launched in June 2013, Venture Lab is part of the School of Business’ Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (EIP), and aims to turn technologies and innovations developed by local start-ups into commercially viable ventures. The Lab has already begun accepting applications for its Cycle 3 program.
Start-ups are awarded LE20,000 for no equity in return and gain access to the university’s co-working spaces. The teams are offered mentoring, coaching and consultancy. Technical support is provided in the form of HR and recruitment, communication, marketing, governance and legal assistance.
