Former President Mohamed Morsi and 130 other defendants in the Wadi al-Natrun case are due to appear in court on January 28, the privately owned newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm (AMAY) reported Thursday.
Judge Shabaan al-Shamy will preside over the trial at the North Cairo Criminal Court, according to Medhat Edrees, head of the technical office at the Cairo Appeal Court.
Other defendants in the case include Muslim Brotherhood leaders Saad al-Katatny, formerly the head of the People’s Assembly; former MB Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie and former MPs Mohamed al-Beltagy, Safwat Hegazy and Youssef Qaradawi.
The figures are accused of creating instability, conspiring with Hamas and international branches of the Brotherhood organization to bring down the Egyptian state, training armed Iranian militants to carry out acts of destruction, breaking into Egyptian prisons and smuggling out detainees.
They are also accused of escaping Wadi al-Natrun Prison during the 2011 revolution and smuggling arms and Palestinian militants into Egypt, the state-owned news site Ahram Gate reported.
