The general prosecution office has ordered that Muslim Brotherhood second-in-command Khairat al-Shater be remanded in custody for 15 days pending investigation into charges related to the fatal Ettehadiya Presidential Palace clashes that took place between pro and anti Morsi protesters in December last year.

The same charges have been dropped against head of the Freedom and Justice Party Mohamed Saad al-Katatni who remains in custody in connection with separate charges of insulting the judiciary.

Shater is accused of incitement to illegally detain citizens as well as incitement to torture and kill with terrorist objectives.

During the Ettehadiya clashes Morsi supporters seized some rival protesters detaining them outside the palace. Some of these individuals were physically assaulted.
